With the high number of heavy trucks present on Texas roads, the safety of other road users is threatened whenever they take to the highways. Due to the sheer size and weight of tractor-trailers and other commercial trucks, victims of a truck accident often suffer life-changing injuries or worse. Unfortunately, some truck drivers tend to travel at high rates of speed, making it almost impossible to come to a sudden stop when emergency situations arise or slow moving traffic is encountered.
A 50-year-old woman lost her life in a truck accident that was allegedly caused by a speeding truck driver. A preliminary report by Texas state troopers states that the driver of a truck transporting cattle was speeding in the northbound lanes of Interstate 37, when he allegedly bumped into the rear of another semi truck. This impact was not anticipated and caused the semi-truck driver to lose control and smash into an RV that was in the adjacent lane.
The RV apparently rolled over after the impact of the crash forced it off the road. The 50-year-old passenger in the RV sadly lost her life in this accident. The RV driver and the cattle-truck driver suffered injuries that were not serious and were taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials reported that the driver of the cattle truck will be cited for traveling at an unsafe speed.
When a loved one is killed in a truck accident -- or any other accident -- that was caused by the negligent actions of another party, the surviving family members may seek compensation for associated losses. If the vehicle of the driver deemed negligent belongs to another party or company, the vehicle owner and the driver can be named as defendants in a wrongful death claim filed in a Texas civil court. Depending on state laws, non-economic losses, such as loss of companionship, may be claimed, along with financial damages.
